Over the past several years, IBEC officials have been contracted by the Department of Fisheries & Oceans to assess connectivity in fish-bearing watercourses, with a focus on salmonid species. Assessments have been completed for culverts, bridges, and physical barriers on fish-bearing watercourses throughout the province, with IBEC’s focus being on the northeast coast and Burin Peninsula.
IBEC officials have also trained approximately a dozen other ENGOs in protocol and data management regarding the program, with Executive Director Darren Sheppard being the trainer for the ACA program.
