About IBEC:
Indian Bay Ecosystem Corporation (IBEC) is an environmental not-for-profit charity, focused on the conservation and enhancement of the Indian Bay Watershed. In recent years, it has expanded to involve major work in Cape Freels, along the northeast coast & throughout the entire province.
About the Position:
The Environmental Field Technician will have responsibilities working under the general guidance of IBEC’s volunteer Board of Directors, the Executive Director, and the Project Coordinator.
This role involves fieldwork in coastal environments, data collection, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of researchers. The position is ideal for individuals passionate about marine ecology, invasive species management, and hands-on field research in various types of work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and collect traps to monitor European Green Crab populations.
- Collect and record ecological data, habitat conditions, and other data sets.
- Engage with locals, conservation groups, and community members.
- Follow safety protocols and environmental regulations while conducting fieldwork.
- Implementation of conservation, enhancement, restoration, and other types of projects.
- Assist in the delivery of presentations, workshops, and events.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, depending on weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Successful completion or working towards a post-secondary diploma and/or degree in the areas of Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, a related field, or have related experience.
- Ability to conduct field work for extended periods of time and in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- If selected, you must present a valid driver’s license, a recent drivers abstract, a valid code of conduct, & valid first aid, or be able to obtain the necessary documentation or training prior to employment.
- The successful applicant will work in various locations within Bonavista Bay and Notre Dame Bay throughout the entire length of the contract. Heavy travel is to be expected while trapping in various areas. Accommodation during the on-location trapping period (the work week) will be provided.

Summer Youth Positions
IBEC is accepting resumes from youth aged 15 – 30 who are approved to work in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number. Positions are for 8 weeks, 35 hours per week, at $16.35 an hour. Start date will be Monday, June 29th.
All positions will be based out of our office in Indian Bay, however, various worksites throughout the Indian Bay Watershed and Bonavista North will be in our workplans. Duties would include:
– Assisting with cleanups
– General maintenance of building and property
– Assisting with brush cutting and trail maintenance
– Other duties when required
